Dyer County volleyball opened District 13AA play in impressive fashion Monday night, picking up victories in both junior varsity and varsity action on the road at South Gibson. The varsity Choctaws opened district play with a straight-set victory, defeating South Gibson 25-19, 25-14 and 25-7. After a competitive opening set, Dyer County took control as the night progressed. The Choctaws allowed just 21 total points over the final two sets, closing the match with a dominant 25-7 third set. Dyer County recorded nine service aces in the victory. Kate Benedetto led the Choctaws with four aces, while Ady B. Harrison and Kate Davis added two each. Ella Beasley finished with one. The junior varsity Choctaws had to battle from behind to earn their victory. South Gibson took the opening set 25-21, but Dyer County responded with a 25-21 win of its own in the second to force a deciding third set. The Choctaws carried that momentum into the finale, taking the set 15-7 to earn the 2-1 victory. Dyer County recorded seven aces in the JV match, led by Macy Seaton with four. Isabel Lack added two, while Leighton Peery recorded one. The two victories gave Dyer County a successful start to its District 13AA schedule and set up another road test against a familiar opponent. Dyer County will continue district play Tuesday when the Choctaws travel to Dyersburg.
