NEWBERN, Tenn. — Dyer County suffered its second loss of the season Friday night as Crockett County defeated the Choctaws 40-7, dropping Dyer County to 2-2 on the season. Crockett County improved to 3-1 with the victory. Crockett County established control early, scoring six points in the opening quarter before breaking the game open with 20 points in the second. The Cavaliers carried a 26-0 advantage into halftime and added another touchdown in the third to extend the lead to 33-0. One of the biggest plays of the first half came when Crockett County intercepted a Dyer County pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. The Cavaliers followed with a 25-yard touchdown pass and a five-yard touchdown run during the second quarter. Dyer County continued to battle and broke through in the fourth quarter. Korey Taylor capped a Choctaw drive with a three-yard touchdown run, and Dillon Rogers converted the extra point to put Dyer County on the board. Crockett County answered with a 34-yard touchdown run to produce the final 40-7 margin. Taylor Leads Choctaw Ground Game Taylor provided the bulk of Dyer County's production on the ground, carrying 16 times for 56 yards and the Choctaws' lone touchdown. KeAnthony Barbee added 23 yards on six attempts. Quarterback Landen White completed 6 of 12 passes for 98 yards. Grant West supplied the biggest gain through the air with a 43-yard reception, while Jaiden Sebourn caught a pass for 39 yards. Barbee hauled in three passes for 14 yards, and River Johnson added a two-yard reception. Dyer County finished with 164 yards of total offense, averaging 4.1 yards per play. The Choctaws gained 98 yards through the air and 66 on the ground while recording nine first downs. Crockett County totaled 310 yards, including 210 rushing, and finished with 19 first downs. Turnovers also proved costly for the Choctaws. Dyer County threw two interceptions, while Crockett County finished the night without a turnover. The Choctaws were also penalized six times for 56 yards and converted three of 10 third-down opportunities. Defense Records Three Tackles for Loss Grant West led Dyer County with four tackles, while River Johnson recorded three. Clark Ross, KeAnthony Barbee and Oakley Joiner each finished with 2.5 tackles, while Zay Bowen, Eli Pollock, Christen McPherson and Landon Hendrix each recorded two. Joiner produced one of the defense's biggest plays, recording a tackle for loss and a sack. Hendrix added a tackle for loss, while McPherson and Montrale Smith were each credited with half a tackle for loss. McPherson also forced a fumble, and Jaiden Sebourn was credited with a fumble recovery. On special teams, Bennett Black punted five times for a 33.8-yard average, placing one inside the 20. River Johnson totaled 32 yards on two kickoff returns, Sebourn returned one for 18 yards and West had a six-yard return. Region Play Up Next Dyer County will now turn its attention to an important Region 7-4A matchup as the Choctaws hit the road to face Jackson North Side. The road contest will give Dyer County an opportunity to respond following Friday's loss while shifting the focus back to region competition.
